“Collective Liberation includes our Non-Human Kin”

Collective liberation includes all of us. Veganism offers an opportunity to disrupt colonial logic by challenging its basic building blocks – reducing all life forms to objects for capitalist exploitation. There may be no ethical consumption under capitalism, but that is not to be used as an excuse to sit by while systems of domination cause suffering and destruction. For many in the diaspora we use food to maintain a connection to our cultures, but modern meat production and other systems of animal industry are amongst the most ruinous. That doesn’t mean all systems of plant-based agriculture are benevolent or benign, but animal production has the largest negative impact. As a settler on this land, I strive to minimize the destruction my choices make, while attacking those at the top who are maintaining the exploitative systems (Do not tell indigenous peoples how to practice their life-ways). I invite all to challenge the ways speciesism shows up in our lives, who is worthy of dignity, and who is never given the chance.
