No Compromise patch

1/2 the proceeds of this patch go to the Earth First! Journal.

I was very excited to create this piece. It is a lino-cut and wood-type letterpress print entitled “”No Compromise”” (a very famous EF! slogan). The image is framed by giant coastal redwoods, Sequoia sempervirens, the tree that first awed me as a child. While they are more common in the area where I grew up, they still exist in a  strip along the coast that enters the Cascadia bio-region where I currently live. At their feet are clusters of ferns. The figure in the center has the skull of a mountain lion, Puma concolor, the largest apex predator in North America in the subfamily Felidae. This figure has a halo of mountain lion teeth, and is clutching a dagger behind their back. Their hair twists and tangles into a waterfall of Trillium flowers. The banner at the top holds the wood-type letterpress quote “”NO COMPROMISE in defense of the Earth”” with the top branch being that of the Twinflower, Linnaea borealis subsp. americana. For me this print tries to encompass and give recognition to some of the biopic factors of an ecosystem  (predators, trees, fungi, etc.) and their community that many people world-wide are working to defend. Please support the Earth First! Journal Collective and all that they do.

About the Earth First! Journal Collective:

“The Earth First! Journal is the voice of the radical environmental movement. Published quarterly, it contains reports on direct action; articles on the preservation of wilderness and biological diversity; news and announcements about EF! and other radical environmental groups; investigative articles; critiques of the entire environmental movement; book and music reviews; essays exploring ecological theory and a sometimes-lively letters to the editor section. The Earth First! Journal is an essential forum for discussion within the Earth First! movement. It is meant to be bold, controversial, amusing and diverse in content and style. You won’t find hard-hitting news like this anywhere else.”
