Armenia + Artsakh: A Brief Intro Zine

Last year Armenians worldwide experienced one of the biggest tragedies of their lives when Azerbaijan occupied Artsakh. 120,000 Artsakhi Armenians were attacked and removed from their historic homeland with advanced weapons imported by oil-rich Azerbaijan from Israel, Russia, Pakistan and Eastern Europe. Situated in the diaspora and watching from afar the continuation of a legacy of genocide was hard enough, but being surrounded by many who did not know or did not choose to pay attention to what was happening was harder. Even in radical spaces and anarchist venues the lack of understanding of the region is palpable. I chose to not despair in this fact as I too would have to be honest about my lack of historical knowledge and context on many regions world wide. Inspired by an anti-copyright zine I received in the mail from another Armenian comrade with the same simple title, I expanded their project with more information and context and contribute this knowledge in the radical lineage of self-published zines. As a dear Palestinian friend often says “we keep the records.” With these records we remember, we learn, we reorient, and we strategize.
